October 2026: Kling 4.0 and the short-drama use case
Kuaishou announced that Kling 4.0 launched on October 15, 2026. The company describes native generation up to 30 seconds, combinations of up to 15 Omni Reference assets, and up to 10 keyframe inputs. It positions the model for film, television, short dramas, animation, and advertising. These are provider claims, not results from our own continuity or quality tests. Compared with the older 3.0 discussion elsewhere on this page, the useful decision change is a longer single-pass shot ceiling and more explicit control over reference assets and story beats.
For a short-drama team, the reference and keyframe controls may make Kling worth evaluating when a scene depends on a defined character state, scene transition, or camera beat. They do not establish that a face, costume, prop, or emotional expression will remain consistent in every generated frame. Put an approved character sheet and a short continuity checklist beside each prompt, then inspect outputs shot by shot. Do not treat a vendor’s sample film as a controlled comparison with Vidu, Hailuo, or PixVerse.
Kuaishou says Kling 4.0 is integrated with Kling MCP and CLI for agent workflows, while API access for enterprise customers and developers is described as coming soon in the announcement. Verify the actual feature and model shown in your account; do not assume that every interface or region exposes the same release. The announcement does not settle current generation credits, total cost per approved scene, voice availability, or commercial-use conditions. Check those before estimating a series budget.
